Member of the Month - April 2026

Stephanie and Royce Newcomb

Member of the month photo

Stephanie:

AGE: Don’t ask a lady her age!

How you got started with figure skating:

I skated very briefly in my teens before my parents realized how expensive the sport was and pulled the plug: “Why’re we wasting money, it’s not like you’ll ever be in the Olympics”. It took years even after Ice in Paradise had opened up to get past that mental block and come back to the rink as an adult; choosing to skate simply because I enjoy skating

What are your favorite moves on the ice:

spins (camel, sit, combos etc), learning interesting foot work

What are your figure skating goals:

I want to land my Axel, skate with Royce, try to find excuses to bring some cosplay onto the ice, learn new footwork, spin combos, and start testing - just to see how far I’ll go

Royce:

AGE: 39

How you got started with figure skating:

In May 2025, Stephanie said, “You need to exercise, so you’re skating with me until you find a sport” and I found joy in learning how to skate!

What are your favorite moves on the ice:

I enjoy doing cross rolls, learning deeper edge pulls and I’d love to learn twizzles! I also enjoy learning ice dance with Stephanie.

What are your figure skating goals:

I want to always approach skating with a student's curiosity, constantly learning new things and improving with a focus on edge work and control. If possible later on I hope to learn double jumps!

Congratulations to our members of the month - Stephanie and Royce Newcomb
